Beavers

Try new things. Make new friends. Joining Beavers is just the beginning of your big adventure. Our motto at Cookham Scouts is ‘Have Fun!’.

Beaver Scouts is open to both boys and girls aged between 6-8 years old. We operate a waiting list for your child to join Beavers and it is never too early to put your child’s name on the list.  Click on  Join Scouts Today on this page of the website.

We are currently running 2 colonies : Cree River on Mondays and Red River on Tuesdays between 6.15pm and 7.15pm. Both colonies share the same jam packed programme which enables the Beavers who attend regularly to gain the highest award in Beavers at the end of the 2 years- The Bronze Award. When the Beavers turn 8 they are automatically enrolled in our Cub packs.

The Autumn and Spring terms are predominantly spent at the HQ doing crafts, games, badge work and we have had visits from reptiles and circus acts! During these terms we still try to include outdoor activities and trips including glow stick walks, pond dipping and earn badges through visits to local education centres. We spend the Summer term at Formosa Meadow where we like to get closer to nature by learning basic camping skills including lighting fires, toasting marshmallows and checking out some local wild creatures!

Twice a year the older Beavers have a sleepover at the Scout Hut, inside the hut in the Autumn and outside in the garden under canvas in the Summer. Past themes have included Native American Indians, Sports and Space.

Demand for places at Cookham Beavers always outstrips supply and we would love to be able to set up a third colony so that we could fit more children in. We need some new volunteers to help set it up. If you would be interested in helping with this please get in touch via the enquiry form on the Contacts page. Children of leaders are guaranteed a place in one of our colonies.
