Explorers

Try more. See more. Do more.

At Explorers, you’ll stand on your own two feet, and make memories to last a lifetime. Explorers is for young people between the ages of 14 and 18 years old. We typically meet on a Friday night, either at the scout HQ or our local campsite.

Explorers are encouraged to play a big role in deciding their own programme, with guidance from the leader team. As our oldest section they are out and about more than anybody else. Typical Friday night adventures include climbing at the local climbing wall, cooking on open fires or ice skating in Windsor at Christmas.

We have an annual Hillwalking trip to Wales in early May with the Scouts. The highlight of every year is the Summer Camp. In previous years we have been to Wales, Cornwall and Dorset. Explorer Scout Young Leaders help out with our younger sections, developing valuable leadership skills for the future.

Every four years Explorer Scouts get the opportunity to apply to the World Scout Jamboree, where over 40,000 Scouts from over 100 countries get together for a fortnight of adventure. Explorers can also go on other international trips organised by Maidenhead District or Berkshire County.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
